To make city-centre parking easier, Canterbury City Council piloted a ticketless parking trial. The new system uses barriers, number plate recognition cameras and an optional account system for automatic payments. The change means motorists only pay for the duration of their stay, paying when they return to their vehicle rather than guessing how long they'll be. Pre-launch marketing collateral both physical and digital was required in addition to all new car parks displays and signage. After a successful trial, ticketless parking is being rolled out to sixteen district car parks.
